Do I need to read the Urdu script?
No. Everything on screen comes in Roman Urdu as well, and the practice is spoken. You can learn the script later if you want to.
Urdu or Hindi?
Spoken Urdu and Hindi are close enough that a conversation works in either; the vocabulary, the script and the register differ. Choose the one your family uses. The roster has both.
